Braces are a popular orthodontic treatment to correct misaligned teeth for a well-aligned smile. The sugar in sweet foods and drinks combines with saliva to form a clear layer called plaque. When left neglected for long, it turns into a hard substance called tartar, which cannot be removed without a dentist’s help. Wearing braces makes it difficult to thoroughly clean teeth and hence the chances of tartar developing are high. As such, it is better to avoid too many sugary foods and drinks.

Right after you get braces on your teeth, your mouth will be slightly sensitive for a few days. Thick or dense foods that require a forceful bite, such as thick meats, hard rolls, etc., are better avoided. They increase pressure on your teeth and braces and may be responsible for a bracket coming loose, or worse.

Causing damage to your braces can prolong the treatment timespan substantially, which means you will be wearing them for longer than envisaged initially.
